Cas applies his technical knowledge and experience at VARIODRIVE.

After a long technical career in telecommunications, Cas Helder came into contact with VARIODRIVE in 2021. With his technical knowledge and experience, he supports the team in various technical aspects of the work. We spoke with Cas about his work, the team, and the atmosphere at VARIODRIVE.

Even during his early school years, Cas Helder knew: he was going into the field of technology. He completed his lower-level education (LTS) and went on to finish programs in Industrial Electronics Technician and Industrial Electronics Engineer in the following years. Alongside his work and studies, Cas also engaged in technical projects as a hobby, including maintaining cars. This experience came in handy during his compulsory military service in 1986 when Cas worked on repairing electronic systems in automobiles. After his military service, Cas entered the telecommunications field and spent sixteen years working at Ericsson. “I’ve done everything in the telecommunications industry. From installing telephone exchanges, erecting transmission towers at great heights, to testing telephone exchanges and mobile networks.”

Technical Support at VARIODRIVE

In 2021, Cas got in touch with VARIODRIVE through his girlfriend Irma. Irma is familiar with VARIODRIVE as she works in the office team responsible for administration and order processing. Cas’s role is quite diverse; he supports the team in various technical tasks. “From assembling motors, gearboxes, or encoders together to building specific components and testing functionalities. For instance, checking if the assembled motor reducer works properly, rotates in the right direction, and doesn’t consume too much current.”

VARIODRIVE also manufactures complete custom motors, and assembling and testing these requires great precision. Additionally, we create test and demo setups to support our customers. Cas is involved in various technical tasks within VARIODRIVE. “I also assemble motor and feedback cables for servo drives, assist customers with assembly and testing, as well as handle potential repairs or new firmware updates. In short, my tasks are very diverse, which makes the work both challenging and interesting!”

In addition, Cas is responsible for incoming and outgoing goods. “I handle the incoming transport and notify the administration about it. Based on the labels I receive from the administration, I ensure that the items go to the right place in the warehouse or I start working on assembly.” Products and installations that are ready for transportation are packed and prepared for departure by Cas.

“Compared to my previous job, I’ve entered a completely different aspect of the ‘technical’ field. At VARIODRIVE, I can make good use of my years of experience and learn a lot of new things.”

Atmosphere at VARIODRIVE

We naturally asked Cas how he experiences working at VARIODRIVE. “Working at VARIODRIVE is a lot of fun. It’s a relatively small company with a friendly atmosphere and varied work. We have lunch with the whole team, and you can always have a chat or ask someone a question.” Cas appreciates that he can manage his work himself. Of course, there are deadlines and things that need to be done immediately, but he can also schedule many tasks himself. The accessibility aspect is also a pleasant change for Cas compared to his previous work, where he used to work all over the country and sometimes had to be in the car as early as 6 in the morning to be on location on time. “Now I’m at work in twenty to thirty minutes, which is a nice advantage.”

Although Cas is no longer as involved in technical projects as a hobby, preferring to swim in the competition pool now, technology is still a passion for him. When asked about the most enjoyable aspect of his work, he says, “Definitely the technical part, like figuring out how to assemble a new motor or assembling a new project.”
